Mirror

How you hang a mirror depends on its size and weight. A smaller mirror can be hung in the same fashion as any typical picture frame. A heavy mirror, however, must be hung with attention to detail to make sure that the mirror is safely and adequately hung.

When hanging a heavy mirror, it is recommended that you purchase all of the necessary supplies and take the steps to hang the mirror with special wire and other specific items. This will better ensure that the mirror is hung correctly.

Step 1

Measure the exact center of the mirror on the back of the mirror. Figure the distance from bottom to top of the mirror and then figure what 1/5 of this measurement is. Place marks at this measurement 3 inches below the top of the mirror in from each side edge.

Step 2

Make pilot holes with the drill at the marks placed in step 1. Attach the D rings into the pilot holes with screws. Make the screws sufficiently tight, but do not make them over-tight.

Step 3

Place the mirror wire into each D ring. Make the wire snug between the two rings. Tie an overhand knot with the wire around the D of the ring. Twist the extra wire around itself to keep it secure.

Step 4

Position the mirror with the help of your assistant. Place the level against the wall at the place you want to hang the mirror and make a line on the wall with a pencil all along the top of where the mirror top will be. Determine the middle of the line you have made. Then place marks to the left and right of this mark a distance that is equal to 1/4 of the total distance between the D rings. Make 2-inch vertical lines at these marks.

Step 5

Hold the mirror to the wall by the wire. Position it against the vertical lines made in step 4 and make small marks where the hollow wall hangers must be placed, so that they will be behind the mirror when it is hung. Have your assistant help you with this process.

Step 6

Measure the distance from the attached wire to the top of the mirror frame. Place this measurement on the wall and install the hollow wall hangers that came with your kit.

Step 7

Hang the mirror knowing that it is hung correctly.
