There are many way to clean the glass on a pellet stove. Solvents, a razor, abrasives and even the ashes can be used to clean the tempered glass without scratching the delicate surface. The least expensive and most effective way to clean the glass on a pellet or wood-burning stove is to use the ashes as an abrasive and water. This method can also be used to clean the glass in outdoor grills.

  • Newspaper

  • Razor

  • Cleaning Rag

  • Cool Ashes

  • Water

Step 1

Lay a piece of newspaper under the door to reduce clean up time after cleaning the glass.

Wet the glass with clear water on a piece of newspaper.

Step 3

Gather a liberal amount of cool ashes on the newspaper and rub on the glass.

Work ashes into the residue on the glass. Keep the mixture wet with clear water and fresh ashes until all of the residue is gone from the glass.

Follow with a razor to scrape the remaining residue from the corners.

Wipe the entire surface with a damp rag and dry it with a clean cloth.

Fold up the newspaper under the door that has the wet ashes and debris from cleaning the glass. It can be burned in the stove.

Warning

Always allow the glass to cool before cleaning. Do not use hot ashes out of the stove.
