12-inch serving plate
1 can refried beans
2 tbsp. salsa or taco sauce
1 1/2 cups sour cream
1 cup prepared guacamole
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or Mexican blend cheese
2 medium green onions, chopped
Layered dips make great appetizers at parties. This recipe for an easy Mexican dip can be thrown together in less than five minutes and your guests will love it. You can adjust the different layers depending on your guests' tastes or dietary restrictions — adding different types of salsas or cheeses for more variety, or eliminating the green onions, for example.
Mix the can of refried beans with 2 tbsp. salsa or taco sauce. Spread a layer of the mixture evenly over a 12-inch serving plate.
Spread an even layer of sour cream over the refried bean mixture. Leave approximately an inch of bean dip showing around the edge of the sour cream.
Spread an even layer of the prepared guacamole over the sour cream, leaving an inch border of sour cream visible under the guacamole.
Sprinkle the cheese over the top of the guacamole. Sprinkle the chopped green onions over the cheese.
Serve the dip immediately with tortilla chips or refrigerate it for up to 24 hours.
Arrange some tortilla chips around the edge of the serving plate so that the dip stays on the plate. This also makes a cute and creative garnish for the dip. Consider making fresh guacamole. It doesn't take long and it's typically much richer and more flavorful than pre-made guacamole.
