SinkMaster is a popular brand of garbage disposal, and the model 950 is a 3/4 hp unit that delivers the power to grind food wastes easily. You may have the occasion to disassemble the SinkMaster 950, either to replace a unit that has served admirably for years or to move it to another location. Whatever the reason, it can be accomplished using the same procedure implemented for disassembling any other brand of garbage disposal.

Step 2

Disconnect the dishwasher drain hose, if there is one. Use a standard screwdriver to turn the screw on the clamp around the dishwasher drain hose counterclockwise. The clamp will loosen as you turn the screw, allowing you to pull off the drain hose from the side of the disposal.

Step 3

Detach the p-trap drainpipe from the bottom of the SinkMaster 950 using a pair of slip-joint pliers to turn the plastic nut counterclockwise. Once the nut has been loosened, pull the p-trap off the disposal and twist it out of the way.

Step 4

Grasp the 950 disposal securely with both hands and turn it counterclockwise to remove it from the mounting ring under the sink drain. Pull the disposal out from under the sink and set it aside.

Step 5

Remove the mounting assembly by unscrewing the three mounting screws using a Phillips screwdriver. Turn the screws counterclockwise to completely remove them. Pull the upper and lower mounting rings apart. Unscrew the ring on the drain stub by turning it counterclockwise and remove the mounting assembly. From inside the sink, remove the sink flange and other parts and scrape off the plumber's putty from around the drain using a putty knife.
