Bullnose material for tile comes in a variety of shapes and sizes, depending on the type of field tile you have purchased. While some types of bullnose tile match the field tile and can be cut the same way, other types of bullnose are custom-designed. Straight cuts into corners are simple enough, but in some cases you may need to miter pieces together to wrap around an inside or outside corner, depending on the type of bullnose you have. Knowing how to cut each type correctly means the difference between a shoddy tile job and a professional-looking installation.
Things You'll Need
Tile wet saw
Cut the pieces off straight if you are dealing with a termination into a corner. Mark the piece of tile with a tape measure and a pencil and cut off the end with a tile wet saw.
Miter the outside corners for a horizontal countertop wrap. Cut off the end of a piece of bullnose trim tile at a 45 degree angle using the gauge on the saw tray. Repeat the process for another piece of bullnose but cut the tile in the opposite direction so that when you match the two 45 degree angle cuts together you have a 90 degree corner that wraps around the top edge of the countertop.
Miter the inside corners for custom bullnose pieces on vertical wraps with special profiles. Certain types of custom bullnose, such as those used on Jacuzzi wraps, are not regular field tile but instead large pieces of stone with varying contours on the face. Cut off the ends of two pieces at 45 degree angles so they form a 90 degree inside corner wrap when installed, with cuts angling inward to the corner of the face of the piece.
Miter the outside corners for custom bullnose wraps. This is similar to the inside corner method used for custom bullnose. Wrap the outside corners but in this case cut the 45 degree angle in the opposite direction. Cut the ends of two pieces of bullnose so that when they are held together vertically they form a 90 degree miter wrap around an outside corner, with the cuts angling outward to form a point.
Wear protective gear when cutting tile with a saw.
