Things You'll Need
Wood (about 2 inches thick and longer and wider than the scarf you'll make)
Sandpaper
Varnish or paint
Nails

Yarn or string
If you want to try your hand at weaving a scarf, you may feel intimidated by the high cost of traditional weaving looms. However, for a small project like a scarf you can weave using almost any materials. Build your own weaving loom and you can use it to weave several different scarves, using anything from yarn to string to scraps of fabric.
Step 1
Find a piece of wood that will be suitable to your project. The wood should be approximately 2 inches thick, and long and wide enough to be just bigger than a scarf you would want to make. Remember to leave room in the length for fringe.

Step 2
Sand the wood and apply a coat of varnish, stain or paint to protect it. This will keep the surface smooth so the wood will not snag your scarf.
Step 3
Hammer nails into each short end of the wood, approximately one inch in from the edge. Position your nails about 1/2 inch apart, leaving 1/2 inch on either side open as well. Leave 1/2 to 1 inch of the nails sticking out of the top of the wood's surface.
Step 4
To use the loom, tie your warp thread or yarn in a knot in the far left nail on one end. Wrap it all the way down the length of the loom, around the far left nail on that end, and back up to the second nail on the starting side. Continue to wrap back and forth this way until the whole loom is wrapped, then weave your weft yarn or thread through the wrap to make your scarf.
