      Clean Up

      • Remove the damaged wood and roofing materials completely before attempting to repair. Many times you will need to go all the way down to the rafters by removing the shingles, tar paper and plywood. Remove the plywood in whole pieces. In other words, if the damage is only 2 feet by 2 feet, then go ahead and remove a whole 4-by-8 section.

      Replace

      • Nail the new sheet of plywood into the rafters using 8 penny nails. Replace the felt paper by lapping the new over the old by about 4 inches and securing with felt nails. Reshingle the damaged area by following the old rows of shingles and tying them back together. Do not leave any nails exposed.
