Entertainment Center Ideas for Small Spaces

Save

Entertainment centers are typically fairly large and designed for big rooms. Meant for storing and displaying televisions and audio-visual components, they also have room for movies and other items. In a smaller room, the entertainment centers look obtrusive and take over the room, overwhelming the space. Use ideas for smaller rooms to display all your things without the entertainment center taking all the focus.

Corner Cabinets

  • Corner cabinets are an alternative to the traditional entertainment centers. The cabinet tucks neatly into one corner of the room, taking up only a small amount of space. It sits at a diagonal, with the edges sitting flush against two walls. A large top shelf displays the television while the bottom shelves hold different components. Some designs have notches cut into the shelves to hold the cords and wires in place.

Console Ideas

  • Consoles are often found in living rooms, dining rooms and rooms where you need more storage. The idea also works well as an entertainment center for a small room. The consoles are typically short and long, placing the television low to the ground. The console itself features shelves and storage space inside with doors on the front. Look for styles with sliding doors or doors that swing open. Console cabinets give you more storage for the room without taking up a lot of space.

Glass and Metal

  • For a smaller room, pick an entertainment center made of glass and metal as opposed to the traditional hardwood or plywood options. Heavy wood pieces have a tendency to drag down a smaller room, making it look and feel even smaller. Lighter colors and alternative construction, like the glass and metal, open the room up, making it feel bigger. Glass shelves sit on a metal frame, giving you room to store and display your audio visual items. Depending on how much space you have available, you may want to add one or two matching towers to hold stereo components and decorative items. The glass picks up the natural light, giving the room a fresh look.

Wall-mounted Units

  • When you have only a small amount of space, you can use a wall-mounted unit. Unlike other entertainment centers that sit on the ground and take up valuable floor space, these units mount directly onto the wall with the included hardware. Units of this type are ideal for plasma TVs and flat-screen televisions.
