This same sheet of drywall is available with a thickness of five-eighths of an inch for around $12. An eight-foot board of drywall that is one-quarter inch thick costs roughly $11.
Fire Resistant Drywall
Fire resistant drywall, available in either a half-inch or five-eighths of an inch thickness, is manufactured with additional materials to give each sheet a higher burn rating than standard sheets of drywall. A sheet that is 12 feet long and a half-inch thick costs roughly $15, while a 12-foot long sheet that is five-eighths of an inch thick costs about $18.
Moisture Resistant Drywall
Moisture resistant board, typically installed and bathrooms and kitchens, is typically found in thicknesses of one-quarter inch or five-eighths of an inch thick. Respectively, an 8-foot-long sheet of moisture resistant drywall costs an average of $14 or $16.
A number of factors, including your state, city and even the store you are shopping at, determine the exact price of a sheet of drywall. Some stores also sell specialized sheets of drywall, which can be taller, thicker or longer than sheets of normal size. This price can be further modified by the current state of the economy, both locally and globally, meaning prices can change at any given moment.
Professional installation of your drywall is going to demand even more money out of your pocketbook. At the time of publication, the average price of professional drywall installation can be anywhere from $20 to $30 per sheet of drywall, depending on the exact materials used, the amount of materials used, and the state of the current housing industry. When you are considering hiring a professional, always get at least three solid price quotes before making a final decision.
