Handmade Beaded Sandals
Give your feet a polished and jazzy look by creating do-it-yourself beaded sandals. Beaded sandals can contain any type of beading such as gems, pearls, wooden beads and even glass beads, and because the sandals are handmade, you can use any combination of beads you desire. If you have never made beaded sandals before, consider recycling sandals or embellishing sandals you already own to start. If you are up for a challenge, you may want to create barefoot sandals or even beaded huaraches.

Barefoot Sandals
-
One type of handmade beaded sandals are bottomless beaded sandals, also referred to as barefoot beaded sandals. These sandals feature beads, gemstones, pearls or a combination of the three, along with elastic string or chain. String the elastic string or chain with beads and then lay it flat on the top of the foot. The sandal then circles around the ankle and around the second toe. These sandals are a beach wedding trend, worn by some brides and bridesmaids on their special day. You can also wear these sandals on a day-to-day basis but only in grassy, sandy or indoor areas because the sandals do not have a bottom.
Recycled Sandals
-
Add some pizazz to an old pair of flip flops or a boring pair of sandals by using a hot glue gun to seal on beads and gems. For this project, use beads or gems that are approximately the same width as the strapping on a pair of flip flops. Decorate the strapping with as many or as little beads as desired. A hot glue gun seals the embellishments to the strapping. Dry the sandals properly before wearing. This technique recycles an old casual pair of flip flops into a comfortable dress shoe.

Tribal Sandals
-
Embellish some heeled sandals that have an ankle strap with beading for a tribal look. Place wooden beads on 8 15-inch pieces of elastic string with space left on both ends of the string. Wrap the beads around the front of the ankle and tie the elastic to the back ankle strap of the sandal so that the beads give the appearance of an ankle bracelet attached to a shoe.
Beaded Huaraches
-
You can create huaraches from scratch by cutting out a rubber material such as a tire in the same shape as the bottom of your foot. Punch a hole between the big and second toes and the inside and the outside of the ankle. Place fabric through the holes as strapping and knot it at the bottom of the shoe so that the strapping stays attached to the shoe. Wrap the strapping and tie it around the ankle. Embellish the fabric using a hot glue gun to add a variety of beads.
