Siding you need to install on the face of soffit on the exterior of your home is called the fascia. The siding is installed on the soffit using fascia trim and an F channel. To do this you need to first determine how much vinyl siding is needed for the amount of soffit on your home. Once known you can obtain the vinyl siding, in the form of fascia panels, at your local home improvement store.
Things You'll Need
- Under sill trim
- Vinyl fascia panels
- F channel
- Tape measure
- Table saw
- Snaplock punch tool
Place under sill trim at the top front of the soffit or fascia boards. Secure the under sill trim to the soffit with nails using the hammer. Face the trim down towards the bottom of the soffit.
Place the F channel along the bottom front of the soffit or fascia boards. Secure the channel onto the soffit with nails using the hammer.
Measure from the bottom of the F channel to the top of the under sill trim with the tape measure. Subtract one-eighth inch from the measurement.
Transfer the measurement to the vinyl fascia panels. Cut the vinyl fascia panels to the required size with the table saw.
Insert the snaplock punch tool every 16 inches along the length of the panel. Press the handles of the tool to create a raised slot.
Insert the side of the fascia panel with the raised slots into the groove in the under sill trim. The notches catch when the panel is inserted correctly.
Press the bottom section of the panel onto the F channel until you hear it snap into place.
Repeat this process to attach the remaining fascia boards to the soffit.
Tips & Warnings
- Cut a 5 1/2-inch length of vinyl fascia and then make a 90 degree cut in the center at the bottom. Bend the vinyl over a straightedge to create a corner cap.
