Turn old kitchen cabinets from drab to dramatic using the Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations kit. Cabinet Transformations is a refinishing system available in 35 different colors. The kit comes with a deglosser designed to clean your cabinets and remove anything that would prevent paint from adhering, a tinted bond coat, an optional glaze to add drama to your doors, and a tough clear finish coat to give your finish the durability to handle day to day cooking. Applying Cabinet Transformations can be completed in as few as four days, giving you your kitchen back in much less time than a remodel.
Things You'll Need
- 2 1/2-inch nylon-polyester blend brush
- Cabinet hardware
- Wood putty
Remove your cabinet doors from their frames. Remove all hardware from cabinets and fill in any screw holes with wood putty.
Scrub both sides of your cabinet doors, drawer fronts, and face frames with the included deglosser and scrubbing pad. Allow the deglosser to dry for at least one hour.
Brush one layer of the bond coat onto the doors, drawers and frames using long, even strokes of the 2 1/2-inch angled brush. Give this coat at least 12 hours to dry.
Apply a second layer of the bond coat over the first. Take care to apply this coat evenly and avoid any drips or runs in the paint. This layer needs to dry for at least 12 hours.
Paint on the optional glaze. This coat will darken the color of your bond coat, and catch in any cracks, crevices or wood grain, creating a unique finish. Wipe off any excess glaze immediately after application. Allow your glaze to dry for at least eight hours.
Brush the clear topcoat over your cabinets. This finish will protect and harden over your paint and glaze. This coat should dry for 24 hours.
Hang your doors back on the cabinets. Reattach any old hardware or add new knobs and pulls to complete your brand new look.
