How do I Use a Screw Wall Jack?
A screw wall jack is used for lifting structural elements of a building, such as a beam or joist. You can use it to reinforce a building that has sagging due to a structural deficiency. It should optimally be used as a temporary measure for purposes of reinforcement. You can also use it during a re-leveling process in a house when you need to lift structural elements to replace a damaged beam or joist.

1
Ensure you have a suitable ground surface on which to put the jack. The surface should be level. If the surface is bare earth, such as in a crawl space, place a pre-cast concrete footer below the structural element you seek to support.
-
2
Place the screw jack on the footer or ground below the sagging structural element.
-
-
3
Lower the jack screw adjustment to its lowest height.
-
4
Extend the telescoping jack as high as possible. Lock in place with the locking pin.
-
5
Screw the screw adjuster until the top of the jack reaches the beam or joist that it's trying to support. Use an adjustable wrench for this.
-
6
Tighten the jack until the desired level of the beam or joist has been achieved.
