How to Fix a Loose Door Hinge
Doors provide protection from the elements, reduce utility bills and provide decorative accents to a home. Several parts of a door may break and need replacing, including door hinges. Door hinges that are too loose could cause a door to fall off its frame, posing a danger to people and animals. You will need an assistant to tighten your door's hinges, especially if the door is heavy. Do not leave a door with loose hinges alone. If you are unable to fix the hinges yourself, contact a professional to improve the door's safety. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Remove the door from its hinges while a friend holds the door in place. The lower hinge pin can be driven up and out with the use of a screwdriver and hammer. You should also drive the upper hinge out. Take the door away from the frame with the help of a friend and set it aside.

2
Tighten loose screws. You may find that the wood behind the hinge will not support the screws; if this is the case, you will have to remove the hinges. Take wooden golf tees or dowels and coat them with glue. Drive the golf tees or dowels into the worn out screw holes as deeply as you are able. Allow the glue to dry and cut off extra wood with a utility knife.

Drill pilot holes into the new wood created by planting wooden dowels or golf tees into the holes. Rehang the door hinge using the new wood as a base for the screws. The hinges should now be tightened and capable of supporting the weight of the door. If hinges are still loose, you may need to contact a door repair specialist for further assistance.
