1
Paint the walls to depict a railroad and train or the countryside you might see if you were traveling by train. The wall behind the bed and the opposite wall could be painted like the inside of a train car with windows that show glimpses of the countryside, while the other two walls could appear like the train engine and caboose on railroad tracks with the sky and countryside as a background. If a huge mural is too much, put up a border of railroad tracks with a train on it.

2
Hang wall decals or pictures of railroads and trains around the room if you opt to keep the walls a solid color. Use colorful pictures for a toddler's room or old black-and-white pictures of real railroads for a more mature look.

3
Choose furniture that serves the purpose of the bedroom while adding to the railroad theme as well. A child might enjoy a bed shaped like a train car. Rustic wood furniture with an unfinished look could tie into the theme if it looks like railroad ties. Make sure there are no splinters or rough edges in the wood to avoid injuries.
-
4
Place a rug in the center of the room, especially if the bedroom has hardwood floors. The rug could be a play rug that depicts a city with streets, parks and railroads for a smaller child or an old-fashioned rug that might have graced the floor of a fancy train car once upon a time.

5
Use small pieces of wood to create a platform that goes around the room to display a toy train. Include small patches of fake grass, trees, tunnels and other accessories for authenticity. Place it at a level where your child can see it or play with it.
-
6
Complete the room with accessories that complement the railroad theme. Toy trains or collectible trains can grace shelves, pillows in the shape of train cars can accentuate the bed or a chair, lamps with images of trains can light the room and dresser drawer knobs can be in the shape of train cars.

Tips & Warnings
Pick a color palette of three primary colors (or fewer) to keep the elements connected to one another and to avoid so much color that the room takes on a chaotic feel.
Avoid adding too many accessories and pictures or the room will become hectic and overwhelm your child rather than inspiring her.
