1
Measure the width of the door frame where the threshold is located, using a measuring tape. Once you have the width of the door frame, transfer the measurement to the wooden transition.
-
2
Cut the transition to size, using a miter saw, and place gently into the threshold. Butt the transition against the door stop, and us a pencil to mark on the wood where the doorstop should be. Cut a notch into the transition that will allow it to slide approximately halfway into the doorstop. Cut the notches with a jigsaw or miter box.

3
Apply a polyurethane finish and stain or paint. If painted, use a paintbrush to apply several coats of paint. This will help make the transition cohesive with the doorstop. Allow the transition to dry for at least 48 hours before placing it on the threshold.
-
4
Place the transition into place in the doorway. Slide the transition on top of the metal tack strip transition.
-
5
Fix the transition in place on the threshold with screws. The screws should be sunk completely before being filled with wood filler.
-
6
Touch up the transition with paint, or stain and polyurethane.
