How to Install an RV Sofa

Each year many RV owners will decide to replace the sofa in their RV. The sofa may be old and deteriorating. Another reason owners decide to replace their sofa is to add a piece of furniture that is more comfortable for sleeping. Other owners replace their sofa to save space. Whatever the reason, replacing the sofa is a relatively easy task that can be accomplished by most RV owners.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat head or Phillips screwdrivers
  • 2-inch L-brackets
  • Measuring tape
  • New sofa
  • Helper
  • Wood screws

Instructions

    • 1

Park the RV on a level area and chock the wheels. RVs are easier to work on when they are stable and level.

    • 2

Use the measuring tape to measure the existing sofa. Also measure the door opening. Purchase a sofa that will fit through the RV door opening and into the RV sofa area.

    • 3

Look under the existing sofa and identify the attachment hardware located on the sofa legs. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws from the hardware where it is attached to the floor. Open the RV door and lock it opened with the door latch. Lift up the sofa with a helper and remove it through the open RV door.

    • 4

Attach an L-bracket to each sofa leg with a screwdriver and wood screws prior to lifting the new sofa into the RV. The corner of the bracket should be exactly at the base of each sofa leg.

    • 5

Lift the sofa with a helper and place it through the open RV door. Place the sofa into the RV sofa area. Align the sofa to sit in the area desired.

    • 6

Use a screwdriver to insert wood screws through the L-brackets and into the RV floor. This firmly attaches the sofa to the floor of the RV so it does not move while the RV is moving.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to consider the final dimensions of the open sofa if the new sofa will fold into a bed.

  • Make sure to include the extension handle, when measuring the sofa, if part of the new sofa is a recliner.
