How to Cover a Chipboard

You love scrap-booking and creating pages with photos, ribbons, and other embellishments. You have been curious about using chipboard, a hard cardboard-like paper stock. Chipboard can not only be used as a backing for your scrapbooks, but the stock can also be covered with paper and cut into small pieces that can be placed with your scrapbook. Covering chipboard requires a piece of paper of your choice, a cutting tool, and a glue stick.

  • Flat surface
  • Chipboard

Instructions

    • 1

Use a clean rag or shop towel to wipe off a flat surface like a desk, workbench, or other surface.

    • 2

Place a piece of chipboard on the flat surface.

    • 3

Apply glue from a glue stick or other adhesive lightly onto the chipboard.

    • 4

Apply a light coating of glue or other adhesive onto a piece of colored paper of your choice.

    • 5

Lay the colored paper on the chipboard.

    • 6

Use a bone folder or old credit card to smooth out any air bubbles. Work slowly so you don't make any dents in the paper.

    • 7

Let the glue bond for five minutes.

    • 8

Use a craft knife or a pair of scissors to cut the covered chipboard into a shape or design. Or, leave the covered chipboard as-is and use it as a backing for a project.

    • 9

Use a emery file to smooth out any rough edges if you want.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also spray-paint chipboard with a can of glossy or flat spray paint. Make sure you are outside or in a well-ventilated area when applying the paint. Wear latex gloves and a nose mask for protection. Wait until the paint has dried completely before cutting out any shapes or designs.
