You can set up a wireless router to work with Time Warner cable service.

A router is an additional piece of hardware that can be used with any Internet Service Provider or broadband modem, such as Time Warner/RoadRunner cable modems. Routers are small hubs that allow you to share your Internet connection with additional machines, including desktops, laptops, video game consoles and cell phones. Using a router is perfectly legal, and there is no additional service provider fee. Setting up a router is simple; no software installation is required.

      Disconnect the Time Warner cable modem from the power outlet and the remove the Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port on your computer.

      Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the "Internet" port of your modem and the other end to the "Internet" port of the router.

      Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to "Port A" (it may be numbered) of the router and the other end to the "Ethernet" port of your computer. You can also connect more

      Plug the modem back into the power outlet. Wait for all of the lights to stabilize. Plug
      the router into a power outlet. Wait for the lights to stabilize. The router is now
      functional. Any computers connected to the router will have Internet access.

  • Set up the router's security features. This will allow you to broadcast your wireless signal so Wi-Fi enabled devices can connect to your network. At the same time, this will prevent unwanted users from using your connection. How this is done can vary depending on the router, so refer to your router's manual for setup instructions.
