Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the waterbed heater from its power supply. Waterbed mattresses come with a garden hose connector that allows for easy mattress filling. The garden hose connector is required for waterbed mattress draining as well. Attach the garden hose connector to a garden hose and then to the waterbed mattress. Place the other end of the garden hose in an area that is lower than the level of the waterbed mattress (e.g., bathtub, outside).

    • 2

Drain the waterbed mattress until it is flat and as empty as possible, lifting the corners of the mattress to force the water out of the garden hose. Place a towel around the garden hose connector to catch any water that may leak out.

    • 3

Fold down the top third of the waterbed mattress. Fold the remaining mattress down over the top, leaving the garden hose still connected. Fold the left third of the mattress over the middle third, and then fold the right third of the mattress over the rest of the mattress. Lift the folded waterbed mattress out of the waterbed frame.

    • 4

Remove the waterbed heater from the bottom of the waterbed frame.

    • 5

Slide the new, regular mattress into the room on its side. Situate the mattress to one side of the bed frame. Slowly lower the top side of the regular mattress onto the bed frame. Pull the regular mattress into place.

Tips & Warnings

  • A siphon pump can also be used to drain the waterbed mattress if you cannot find your garden hose connector.

The inside dimensions of a wood frame waterbed are not sized the same as a convention mattress. The dimensions of a king size waterbed frame are 72x84 which is a California King. Most conventional king mattresses are Eastern King which is 76X80. California King conventional mattress are generally considered a special order and usually are going to cost more than an Eastern King. Q wood frame waterbeds are close with the inside dimensions being 60x84. A conventional Queen mattress is going to measure 60x80 so there will be a gap of about 4 inches lengthwise. Super Single waterbeds are a totally odd size at 48x84. There is not a standard size conventional mattress that is even close and a replacement would definately have to be special ordered.
