How to Make Fairy Tale Costumes
Contrary to what some people may think, fairy tale costumes are not just for Halloween. Most children love to play dress up, and a closet full of fairy tale costumes will provide hours of playtime enjoyment. Making fairy tale costumes isn't as difficult as you might think, and for those who are creative, you may even find you can forgo a lot of sewing to make them. In this article, you will learn how to make a fairy costume.
Things You'll Need
- 2 white wire coat hangers
- Wire cutter
- Pantyhose
- Scissors
- Hot glue
- Sparkles, artificial gems and glitter
- Plain dress
- Artificial flowers and leaves
- Flats or ballet slippers
- Head band
- Cardboard
- Wooden dowel
- Ribbon

Cut the hooks off the hangers with the wire cutters. Stretch the hangers into matching fairy or butterfly wing shapes.

Cut the legs from the pantyhose and stretch one leg over each wing. Tie the legs off at the bottom or sew or hot glue them shut.

Decorate your homemade wings by hot gluing glitter, artificial gems and any other decorations you would like to them.

Attach the two wings together with hot glue or by sewing them together.

Hot glue your homemade wings to the back of the dress.

Hot glue silk flowers and leaves all over the dress, ballet slippers and head band.

Cut out a circle of cardboard and hot glue larger silk flowers to both sides of it. Hot glue this circle to the wooden dowel.

Wrap the wooden dowel with ribbon that matches the rest of the fairy costume. Hot glue the ribbon to the dowel. Leave some ribbon hanging from the bottom of the dowel. This is the fairy wand for your fairy costume.

Tips & Warnings
If a child is making the fairy costume, an adult should be supervising the entire process, since it requires wire cutters and a hot glue gun.
