Flat-screen plasma televisions have become a popular way to watch TV. The sleek, futuristic look of a plasma television makes it a stylish addition to any home. Some owners of plasma TVs have purchased wall brackets to hang their TVs on the walls of a house. Some even hang them on the mantle above a fireplace. This method presents a distinct issue concerning dangling wires. However, plasma TV wires can be concealed using the following technique.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flat-screen TV wall brackets Screws Drill Masonry drill bit Caulk Hole patching kit
  1. Step 1

Hang your TV according to the wall bracket specifications. Depending on what type of wall you're hanging it on, you may need different tools and special hanging equipment. Consulting a professional for installation information may be the best course of action.

  2. Step 2

Use a masonry drill bit to remove a small amount of grout from between the bricks, creating a shallow trench. Use the trench you have created between the bricks to run your wires off to the side of the fireplace.

  3. Step 3

Lay the wires into the newly dug trench, making sure that the trench is deep enough for the wires to lay parallel with the brick face. Cover the wires with caulk. Choose a caulk color that is similar to the rest of the grout on the wall to make the wires' hiding place less conspicuous. You can find caulk in a variety of colors at any hardware store.

  4. Step 4

Drill two parallel holes in the sheet rock wall that borders the fireplace--one near the end of the trench between the bricks to run the wires into, and one much lower to the ground. The wires should protrude from this second hole to be plugged into various locations. Make sure the holes are big enough to accommodate all of the wires that need to be hidden.

  5. Step 5

Attach a small weight to the wires and run them through the top hole and down to the bottom hole. The weight helps the wires drop directly down so that you can pull them through the lower hole fairly easily.

  6. Step 6

Use a hole patching kit to patch the wire holes if they are too big or unsightly. These patch kits give the user a way to cover the holes for the wires with something that is similar to the wall itself.

Tips & Warnings
  • Several electronic stores sell special wire-hiding appliances that hang on a wall without putting large holes into it.
  • This method may cause problems later if you decide to move the television to another spot.
