Large rings
Fishing line
Sheer fabric
Fairy lights
Measure and place a pencil mark on the ceiling above the bed every 2 feet, starting at the head of the bed in the center to the foot of the bed. Make the same measurements and marks along each side of the bed on the ceiling. For most beds this will result in a total of 12 marks, or 3 rows of 4.
Screw a cup hook into each of the marks on the ceiling. Hang a ring on each hook with fishing line. Cut each piece of fishing line 12 inches long and double it, so that the ring will hang approximately 6 inches down from the ceiling.

Cut four lengths of the sheer fabric, allowing extra length for draping. The ends of the fabric can be at any level above the bed desired, or they can reach to the floor.
Thread one of the lengths of fabric through each row of rings, starting at the headboard end of the bed. Arrange the fabric to form even draping, allowing the fabric to billow down toward the bed. If the fabric slips out of the rings or won't stay in position, gather the fabric in your hand and tie it to the rings with fishing line.

String the fairy lights from ring to ring, securing with fishing line if necessary. There are several options for the fairy light design. They can be hung following the fabric across the bed or from each corner to the center of the bed. Experiment until the design is pleasing to you.
Tips & Warnings
Plug the fairy lights in as close to the headboard as possible for ease in unplugging.
