How to Frame a Medicine Cabinet
A medicine cabinet is a great way to help organize your bathroom. Instead of simply throwing toiletries and medicine bottles in a cluttered drawer, keep them within easy reach on the shelves of your medicine cabinet. Things You'll Need
- Stud finder
- Tape measure
- 2-by-4 lumber
- 1/2-inch thick plywood
- Electric saw
- Wood glue
- Wood screws
- Screwdriver
- Adjustable shelf brackets
- Mirror
- Wood or plastic frame
- Construction adhesive
- Piano hinges

Locate the studs in the wall where you will be placing the medicine cabinet. The size of your cabinet will depend on the location of your wall studs. Be sure there will be at least two studs behind the medicine cabinet.

Cut two end pieces and two side pieces of 2-by-4 lumber according to your desired measurements. Apply your choice of paint or wood stain to each cut piece of lumber before assembling the medicine cabinet's frame. Allow the finish to dry overnight before handling the wood.

Lay the pieces of 2-by-4 on the floor so that they create a box. Connect the corners of the box with wood glue; reinforce the connect with wood screws. Allow the wood glue to dry overnight.

Cut a 1/2-inch thick piece of plywood for the back of the medicine cabinet. Attach it to the back of the frame with glue and wood screws. Allow the entire frame to dry before proceeding to the next step.

Attach adjustable shelf brackets on the insides of the vertical pieces of the medicine cabinet frame. For the shelves, either cut your own out of thin plywood or buy glass shelves, pre-cut according to your specifications. If you choose glass shelving, be sure to have them beveled to reduce sharp edges.

Attach a thin plastic or wooden frame to a mirror the same size as your medicine cabinet. This will become the door of the cabinet. Attach two piano hinges to the rear of one edge of the mirror with adhesive and allow it to dry overnight. Use wood screws to attach the hinges to the inside frame of the medicine cabinet.

Tips & Warnings
To hang the finished medicine cabinet on the wall, drill holes through the rear of the cabinet and into the wall studs. Use wood screws to secure the cabinet in place. Check the positioning of the medicine cabinet with a level before inserting the screws.
