EZ Hang Door

While removing an interior door isn't a job reserved for a craftsman, installing a pre hung door can be just as easy with EZ Hang.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Remove the door from the frame. Do this by inserting a nail under the bottom hinge and tapping up with your hammer. This will cause the hinge pin to raise up. It can then be easily removed. Repeat this on all of the hinges.

  2. Step 2

Next, remove the trim with a hammer and pry bar. Tap the pry bar between the inner edge of the trim and the door frame. This will loosen the trim from the frame. Complete this process on both sides of the door.

  3. Step 3

Remove the center screw from each hinge on the door frame. These could be long screws into the wall stud. Using the reciprocating saw, insert the blade between the door frame and wall. Cut off any nails through the jamb and into the wall studs. Do this around both sides and the top of the door. Your door frame can now be simply removed from the opening.

  4. Step 4

Go to www.EZHangDoor.com to see how to hang a prehung door. This method of door installation replaces shims in a typical interior door install.

Tips & Warnings
  • When using the pry bar on the outer edge of the trim, use a small block of wood to place against the wall to keep from damaging the drywall.
  • Use EZ Hang door installation brackets for an easy alternative to using wood shims.
  • Be careful when removing and handling a door they can be very heavy. You may want a second person to lend a hand.
