How to Build a Plate Rack

A simple wood plate rack can be used on the kitchen counter to stack and organize clean dishes. The wood rack can also be used in a kitchen cabinet to easily store plates. A wood plate rack is fairly easy to make, and the project requires very few tools. When the rack is assembled it can be painted or stained.

Things You'll Need

• 18 wood dowels (1/8-inch diameter, 4-inch length) 2 strips of pine (1/2-inch square diameter, 12-inch length) Drill with 1/8-inch drill bit White glue Sandpaper

Instructions

1. Sand the pine strips of wood if necessary. The exterior should be smooth.

2. Connect the two strips of wood together using two of the wooden dowels. Drill two holes on the side of each wood strip, 1-inch from each end. Wet both ends of a dowel with white glue and insert one end into one hole in a wood strip, and the other end of the dowel into a hole on the other strip of wood. Attach the second dowel following the same process. Allow to dry.

3. Drill a row of eight holes along the top of each wood strip. Equally space the holes, and position them identically on each strip of wood.

4. Attach the dowels. Insert a dowel into each hole after dipping the end in white glue. Allow the glue to dry completely.
