How to make a seat cushion for a bench

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First thing you need to do is measure the bench you are covering, make sure you measure length and width. and then use the measurements to purchase the remaining supplies.

  2. Step 2

Once you get the remaining supplies lay out the fabric on a hard flat surface and measure it marking it to the measure of the bench, leaving about 2 inches for a seam allowance. and 3 inches to allow for the padding to fit. Cut 2 pieces of fabric that are the same size.

  3. Step 3

Trim the foam padding so that it fits on the bench with only about 1/4 inch overlap. Place the two pieces of fabric together right sides together.

  4. Step 4

Pin around 3 sides of the fabric and sew the main seam, for a decorative look you can sew a seam into the top and bottom of where the padding will fit into. Sew the 3 sides of the cover making sure you double stich at the begining and the end of the fabric

  5. Step 5

On the 4th side of the cover sew in the zipper.

  6. Step 6

Once the fabric is stiched together remove any remaining pins and turn it right side out, stuff the padding into the cover and zip the cover closed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Using the zipper will allow you to remove the cover to wash it if it gets dirty.
  • You can also just stitch the cover closed around the padding.
  • If you find the cushion slips you can add smaller pieces of fabric to the sides of the cushion to tie it to the bench.
  • Use caution with the scissors they may be sharp
  • sewing machine needles and pins can prick your fingers.
