Crochet Dishcloths

Crocheted dishcloths make a perfect quick gift for someone. They also work very well to clean dishes. Crochet can be fancy or plain. Once you know the basics, the possibilities are limitless.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with a foundation chain. Chain 24 and then do a half double crochet into the third chain from the hook and into each chain until end of row. Chain 2 and turn work.

  2. Step 2

Continue to hdc (half double crochet) to the end of the row. Chain 2 and turn work. Do another for of half double crochets into each stitch.

  3. Step 3

Continue to chain two and the end of each row, turn the piece, and half double crochet until you have 16 rows or until the dishcloth measures 8 inches.

  4. Step 4

Once you've done the last row, finish off the dishcloth. Since these dishcloths will be washed a lot, double-knot the end to keep the dishcloth from unraveling.

  5. Step 5

Continue to finish off the dishcloth by working in the loose ends back into the piece.

Tips & Warnings
  • For variations, work in a second yarn into the dishcloth, alternating rows.
  • If you are giving the dishcloths as a gift, it might be tempting to use colored yarn. Some people bleach their dishcloths and this will fade the color, so it might be best to stick with little color when making dishcloths for others.
