Cutting through concrete walls is best left to the professionals, but if you want to take a stab at it, there are a few ways you can personally cut through that wall yourself. Cutting through a concrete wall can cause more damage than expected, so unless you feel confident and qualified, call a pro. Read on to learn how to cut through concrete walls.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use the right equipment for making a cut through a concrete wall. One way is to make cuts down both sides of the wall using a cut-off saw and then to suspend a 90 lb. jackhammer on ropes to break through.

  2. Step 2

Cut through an 8 inch wall using an aluminum track mounted diamond wall-saw. With a stepped up blade diameter you can cut through 18 inches.

  3. Step 3

Cut deeper than using a cut-off saw by cutting the concrete wall with a partner ring saw. This saw has an eccentric drive cutting deeper using the same blade diameter.

  4. Step 4

Complete clean corners, beam pockets and harder to reach cuts by using a water cooled diamond chainsaw.

  5. Step 5

Use a gas powered hand-held concrete saw to cut through your concrete wall. You can rent one from an equipment rental yard. You can also use a carborundum blade in an ordinary skil saw.

Tips & Warnings
  • While making your cuts through the concrete walls, use water to keep the blades cool and the dust down.
  • Be safe. Use ear and eye protection.
  • Don't be to hasty with even a small cut. A circular saw isn't usually the answer for cutting through concrete walls.
  • If you rent concrete wall cutting saws, be aware of hidden costs. You might only pay a small amount for the actual saw, but end up spending a fortune on the blades.
  • You may encounter rebar and/or bond beams inside the wall you are cutting. Make sure to check on these things before you begin.
