Things You'll Need:
- Heavy cutting knife
- Mechanical saw
- Sliding t-bevel
- 2 Ladders
- Hammer and mounting nails
-
Step 1
Use a very sharp knife to cut thinner sheets of fiber cement fascia boards. You may be able to mark each piece and then snap it by applying gentle pressure, but longer pieces will require the use of a saw. If you have any doubts, use the saw, since fiber cement chips easily.
-
Step 2
Measure the angles of any fascia pieces that follow your roof's incline. Use a sliding t-bevel for a close measurement of the angle if you are replacing or covering up old fascia boards.
-
Step 3
Check your soffit to be sure that it doesn't stick out past what will become the bottom edge of the fascia. Since fiber cement isn't flexible, you aren't going to be able to mold it around any outlying soffit material. Trim or sand down the soffit if it is too large.
-
Step 4
Knock on the outside of your home and listen for a solid sound to find the beams. Lightly mark these locations with a knife so that you'll remember where they are when you hang the fascia. Fiber cement fascia could easily fall off of your home if it isn't nailed into a few of these beams.
-
Step 5
Work with a friend to hang the fiber cement fascia boards. This material can be very heavy, so one person will have to support the majority of the weight while the second hammers in nails.
-
Step 6
Apply pressure to the fascia as you hold it in place against the outside of the house. Hammer in a nail at the top and bottom of the end of the board then work your way down to the other end, adding two more nails every 6 inches. Be sure that you are getting nails into a few of the beams that you marked.
-
Step 7
Continue around to the other section of your roof to hang the rest of the fascia. As you work around angled joints, keep a knife nearby in case you have to correct the edge of the fiber cement for a tighter fit.
