Things You’ll Need:

1 quart lightweight all-purpose joint compound
3 inch flexible putty knife
Sandpaper sponge
Paint roller (optional)
Touch-up paint

Step1

Buy one quart lightweight joint compound, a 3 inch putty knife, and a foam sanding block.

Step2

Use your sanding block and lightly sand the dent and the area around the dent to remove any loosely attached pieces of plaster or drywall.

Step3

Use the putty knife and dip out a small amount of the drywall compound.

Step4

Apply a thin coat of the drywall compound to the dent, feathering it out to the edges.

Step5

Let this coat dry about an hour and sand lightly until smooth and flat.

Step6

Apply the compound, dry and sand until smooth two more times for a total of three coats.

Step7

Apply a mixture of drywall compound mixed with a little water with a paint roller and let dry as a last step if you are trying to match a textured wall.

Step8

Paint over the repair with paint.
