Ironing boards that are heavily used will often need a new cover. Creating your own cover allows you to pick out a fabric and pattern that is pleasing to you, and can save you the expense of replacing your entire ironing board.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Place some fabric on the floor. Pick up your ironing board and put it upside down on top of the fabric.

  2. Step 2

Measure and trace the fabric so that it is at least 3 1/2 inches larger than your ironing board all the way around. Cut out the fabric that you have measured with fabric scissors.

  3. Step 3

Fold over the fabric 1-inch all the way around. Iron the 1-inch fold you made. Use stick pins to keep the fold you made in place. Use a sewing machine or needle and thread to sew this fold together. Do not complete the entire seam, but leave a 2-inch wide opening.

  4. Step 4

Turn the ironing board right side up and place the batting on top. Mark and measure the exact size of the ironing board on your batting and cut it out.

  5. Step 5

Place the batting underneath the fabric you made and pin it to this fabric. Sew the batting on to the fabric using a sewing machine or needle and thread.

  6. Step 6

Measure around the ironing board to gets its length and add 1 foot to the total. Using this measurement, cut out some elastic, twine or ribbon. Thread the elastic, twine or ribbon through the 1-inch fold you sewed in Step 3. You may need to use a safety pin thread this through the fold.

  7. Step 7

Place the new ironing board cover on your ironing board and tie the ends of the elastic, twine or ribbon together in a knot so that it will stay snugly on the board.
