Plantation Shutters & Styles
Plantation shutters are a type of interior shutter designed to control the amount of light and air allowed into a home. These shutters are available in a variety of styles, ranging in cost and materials used. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Wood Shutters
-
Traditional plantation shutters are manufactured from wood, but their construction and material make this style the most expensive option. Wood shutters are typically manufactured from basswood or hardwoods, including cedar, alder and poplar.
Faux Shutters
-
Faux plantation shutters are an affordable alternative to wood and other materials. This type is manufactured from plastic or polyvinyl. Routine maintenance may be required because of their tendency to fade in sunlight.
-
MDF Shutters
-
Vinyl shutters cannot replicate the appearance of wood, which limits their colors and selection. However, MDF (medium density fiberboard) accurately mimics the appearance of wood. MDF shutters fall in the middle range regarding costs, being a cheaper alternative to wood but more expensive than polyvinyl.
