Furniture Flipping: Desk Rehab

eHow Home Blog

Nothing gets my creative juices flowing like stumbling across a piece of furniture in desperate need of a face-lift, but when I find a truly unique item with a price tag of free, it’s like Santa came early. Rescued from the side of the road, I was more than happy to take this beaten desk off of my neighbor’s hands. Sure it was missing several drawers, but its charming details and one remaining drawer pull were enough to capture my heart and send my do-it-yourself imagination into overdrive.

I liked the worn look of the original paint, so after a good scrub, I used painter’s tape and few stokes of the paintbrush to add horizontal stripes across the top of the desk.

I wanted to reuse the only remaining drawer pull, but alas, with no operable drawers, I had to turn to other options, settling with adding the drawer pull as a decorative accent on the front of the desk.

Finally, I combined the openings for the drawers on either side of the desk and added tall woven baskets for storage.

In no time at all this dresser pulled from the curb went from frighteningly filthy to frugally fabulous.
