Things You'll Need

  • 2- to 4-inch-wide satin ribbon

  • Letter stencils

  • Fabric glitter pen

  • Chalk

  • Hook-and-loop fastener

  • Fabric glue

Make a satin sash for your little princess.

You can make an elegant-looking princess sash to add to a Halloween costume or make a bunch of sashes for a little princess's next birthday party and hand one out to each of the guests. You can keep the sash simple, with just a little bit of glitter, or embellish the sash with imitation gemstones or miniature silk flowers. The sashes can also be used as a party activity by having the party group decorate the sashes with fabric glitter pens, glue-on decals and puffy paint.

Step 1

Cut the ribbon for the sash. Cut the ribbon to about 36 inches. Cut the ends diagonally for nicer looking edges.

Step 2

Fold the ribbon in half and make a small chalk mark to keep track of the center. Half of the sash will drape across the front of the body and the other half behind.

Step 3

Place letter stencils down the front half of the ribbon to spell the word "PRINCESS." Alternatively, write the letters down the sash using freehand. Do this with a piece of chalk or erasable fabric pencil.

Step 4

Trace over the stencils or freehand letters with a fabric glitter pen. Let the glitter dry for 10 to 15 minutes and then carefully remove the stencils. Let the glitter dry completely.

Step 5

Measure 2 inches inward from each short end on the wrong side of the ribbon and make a small chalk mark. Cut a small piece of hook and loop fastener. Apply fabric glue to the back and press it against the chalk mark. Cut a corresponding piece of hook and loop fastener, glue it and press it against the other chalk mark.
