Store you bats on a bat holder.

No one wants bats lying around for everyone to trip on. Bat holders are a great way to get bats off the ground and on display. You can make bat holders for mini bats as well as regular sized bats. You can modify this procedure to make longer or shorter bat holders, depending on your needs. This mini bat holder also has a built in top shelf so you can display other baseball memorabilia on it if you desire.

Step 1

Cut your lumber so you have a 24-inch piece and a 22-inch piece. Position the two pieces so the long edges of the wood are touching and they make a 90 degree angle with the longer piece overlapping the smaller piece. The longer piece will be the top shelf of your bat holder.

Step 2

Secure the two pieces together with 4 wood screws. Insert the wood screws through the longer piece into the shorter piece. Position this piece in front of you so the "shelf" piece is standing vertical and farthest away from you while the shorter piece is horizontal and closest to you.

Step 3

Measure and lightly mark with a pencil every 2 inches on the lower edge of the shorter piece of wood. Go to the first mark, measure to the right of that mark 3/8 inch and make a darker mark. Go to the second 2 inch mark. Make a mark 3/8 inch to the left and right of this mark. Continue doing 3/8-inch marks on both sides of your 2-inch marks. Every 2-inch increment should have a mark on each side of it except the first mark on the far right and left. You should have 18 marks that indicate your drill holes when you are done doing this step.

Step 4

Drill holes for the dowels on the darker marks you made on either side of the 2-inch marks. Remember, there is no mark to the left of the first 2 inch mark or to the right of the last mark. Use a ¼-inch drill bit and drill all the way through the board.

Step 5

Drill two holes for securing the bat holder to the wall. Each hole should be 3 inches down and 6 inches in from each end of the shorter board.

Step 6

Measure, mark, and cut the dowels into 3-inch pieces. You will have 18 dowel pieces when you are done.

Step 7

Squeeze a small bead of wood glue into each drilled hole, except the ones made in step 5. Insert a dowel piece into each drilled hole. Push them into the hole until it rests flush with the back of the board. Allow the glue to set according the products directions.

Step 8

Paint or stain the bat holder according to your liking.

Step 9

Hang the bat holder on the wall when the glue is dry. Insert wood screws through the two anchoring holes into the wall. Make sure the shelf is level before you drill the screws in all the way. Hang your mini bats on the dowels.
