The 3M Company obtained its first patent for window film in 1966. Since then, the company has developed an array of different window films, include Scotchtint and Scotchshield films. 3M window films darken windows to keep out the sun, making rooms easier to cool. The films can block up to 99 percent of harmful UV rays, protecting upholstery, wallpaper, carpets and furniture from fading. The films carry a ten year warranty for most applications and should be applied by window tint professionals.

Step 2

Squeegee the excess moisture from the window, starting at the top left or right hand corner. Bring the squeegee smoothly all the way down the window pane. Wipe the squeegee with the cloth. Repeat until the whole window has been cleaned.

Step 3

Polish the window with the soft cloth.

Tip

Wait 30 days after window film application before cleaning.

You can use a commercial window cleaning solution or make your own with ammonia and water or vinegar and water.

Use a spray bottle and cloth for quick cleaning touch ups.

Warning

Never use an abrasive or sharp edged material to clean the windows. These will scratch the film.
