'54 Chevy Pickup. By Rachel Asher

Chevy trucks are the epitome of Americana. The first Chevrolet truck was designed in 1918 to compete with Ford's Model T. A classic pick-up design was used until the late 1930s, when the body changed to an Art Deco style that persisted until after World War II. In 1947, the Advanced Design light-duty Chevy pickups emerged. The 1954 Chevy pick-up used as a model for this article is one of these Advanced Design models.

Step 1

Draw the trunk and the front tire guard of the Chevy truck.

Draw the trunk and the front tire guard of the Chevy truck. The tire guard is shaped like an arc and is 4.5 cm wide and one centimeter thick, with the left side more vertical and straight than curved. The hood of the car rests on top of the tire guard, extending slightly further to the left than the tire guard.

Step 2

Draw the Chevy truck's grill and the outline of the car door.

Draw the Chevy truck's grill and the outline of the car door. The grill is made up of three bars, with about half a centimeter of space between each bar. Below the bottom bar, draw the metal bumper. It's about one centimeter high at its widest point, and half a centimeter high at its narrowest point. The car door is trapezoidal in shape: 4 cm x 4 cm x 2.5 cm x 2 cm on top, and rectangular: 4 cm x 4.5 cm on the bottom.

Step 3

Draw the back tire guard and the side of the pick-up of the Chevy truck.

Draw the back tire guard and the side of the pick-up of the Chevy truck. The back tire guard is more rounded than the front one, 5 cm in length and 2.5 cm thick. The side of the pickup is rectangular: about 7 cm in length and 2 cm high.

Step 4

Draw the Chevy truck's windshield, side window, and the inside of the pickup.

Draw the Chevy truck's windshield, side window, and the inside of the pick-up. The side window is shaped like a right triangle: 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm x 2 cm on the left side, and a 2 cm square to the right. To draw the inside of the pick-up, draw a line that starts half a centimeter above the top leftmost part of the side of the pick-up, and connect it to the top right of the side of the pickup.

Step 5

Draw the Chevy truck's tires. The front tire is 2.3 cm in diameter, and the back tire is 3 cm in diameter. Draw a 1.2 cm diameter circle in the middle of the front tire, and a slightly smaller circle within the one you just drew. Draw a 1.5 cm-diameter circle in the middle of the back tire, and a slightly smaller circle within that one. Draw five triangles within the innermost circles and color them in. These are the tire caps.

Step 6

Draw the tires, the details on the car, and shade in the windows.

Darken the lines that you drew for the truck. Draw one semi-circular headlight in the top left corner of the front tire guard. Also draw the door handle, one centimeter below the bottom right corner of the side window. The handle should look like a barbell, about one centimeter across. Draw the sideview mirror, which looks like a microphone, and two skinny lines coming from either corner of the windshield, for the windshield wipers. Color in the tires, the front bumper, the space between the metal grill, and the windows.
