Things You'll Need
For many people, hot tubs seem like a luxury that is difficult to afford. Most people go their entire lives only enjoying hot tubs at spas or at a well-off friend's house. Now, thanks to Southern ingenuity, it is possible for anyone to enjoy a hot tub on his own property, for a fraction of the price of a regular hot tub. If you own a pickup truck and a few other items (which don't cost much to buy if you don't have them already), you can start hosting your very own hot-tub parties in no time.
Park your pickup truck wherever you want your portable hot tub to be located, as long as it is within reasonable distance of your home. It must be close enough for a water hose to reach from your house to the truck.
Lay the tarp into the bed of the pickup. Make sure the tarp is not ripped or torn anywhere. The size of the tarp will vary with the size of the truck. The tarp will need to be big enough so that you can push the middle down into the bed and still have plenty of tarp hanging over all of the edges. Make sure there is plenty of tarp inside the bed.
Use the duct tape to secure the tarp. Wrap the duct tape around the outside of the truck bed numerous times. There will be a lot of water inside the tarp and the bed of the truck, so make sure you wrap it tight. Also, make sure you push the cab side of the tarp down in between the cab and bed, and tape it as securely as the rest of the bed. If you made sure there was plenty of tarp in the bed, you should be ready to fill the bed with water without worrying about the tarp slipping into the bed.
Unspool the water hose from your house, place it into the bed of the truck and turn the water on full power. Some truck beds will hold well over 300 gallons of water, so now would be a good time to do something else productive while waiting for the bed to fill. It could take a few hours.
Prepare another hose (preferably not your house hose). You can do this while you wait for the bed to fill. Place one end of the hose into the tailpipe of your truck. Use some of the duct tape to secure the hose in position. Make sure no air is coming out of the tailpipe that is not going directly into the hose.
Place the other end of the hose into the bed of the truck after you have finished filling it. It is important that you be in a well-ventilated area before proceeding to Step 7.
Fire up the engine of the truck. The exhaust coming through the hose will act as a bubble maker in your new truck hot tub. If you want, you can rev the engine to really get the water bubbling. If you do this, however, you will need to make sure there is someone behind the wheel of the truck at all times.
Having a few buddies help you out will be beneficial. It's a big job, but the payoff is entertainment in a hot tub that didn't cost a lot.
Do not do this in a garage. You will need to be in a well-ventilated area to make sure that no poisonous fumes accumulate around you.
