Hide the cords to your pendant lamps with paintable cord covers.

Pendant lamps come in a variety of decorative designs, from paper lanterns to vintage-style mason jars. Finishing your room with a pendant lamp usually requires the skills of an electrician to run the wire through the ceiling, but with a few lengths of cord cover and some paint, you can camouflage your pendant light cord, transforming it from an eyesore to a natural part of the room.

Step 1

Wipe down the path along the ceiling and wall from your pendant lamp to the nearest electrical outlet.

Step 2

Measure the distance perpendicularly from your pendant lamp to the place where the ceiling meets the wall with the electrical outlet. Measure from the point where the ceiling and wall meet directly down to the height of the outlet. Measure the distance from the electrical outlet to the point at the same height on the wall that falls directly beneath where the cord will meet the wall along the ceiling.

Step 3

Cut your cord cover with a hacksaw into the three lengths you measured earlier. Place pendant lamp cord into the first length of cord cover. Remove the adhesive backing from the cord cover and press it firmly to the ceiling along the most direct path and perpendicularly to the wall with the outlet.

Step 4

Run the cord through your second length of cord cover. Remove the adhesive backing and press this length firmly against the wall, starting at the same point where your first cord cover ended and continuing in a straight line downward. The cord cover should end at the same height as the electrical outlet.

Step 5

Lightly draw a straight line from the end of the second cord cover to the electrical outlet, using a level to assist you. Place the remaining length of cord into the final cord cover, remove the adhesive backing and attach it to the wall along the marked path.

Step 6

Snap the cord cover elbow joint piece over the two cord covers at the point where they meet along the wall to hide the gap.

Step 7

Paint the entire exposed surface of the cord covers with a latex paint in the same color of the ceiling and walls.

Tip

Make your measurements before purchasing your cord covers so you will know exactly the length needed.

Warning

Always unplug your pendant lamp before you begin.
