Tissue paper decorations can give your party a festive and fanciful feel as well as help create an enjoyable atmosphere for your guests. Items like tissue paper pom poms and tassels are easy and inexpensive to make and can be used both inside and outdoors. All you have to do is follow a few simple steps, hang them up and you will end up with some great party decor that everyone will appreciate.

Things You'll Need

  • Pom Poms:
  • 8 tissue paper sheets
  • Floral or craft wire
  • Scissors
  • String
  • Tassel Garland:
  • Tissue paper
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Rope

Tissue Paper Pom Poms

Stack the tissue paper neatly and, starting at one end, fold it together accordion style. Each fold should be 1-1/2 to 2 inches wide. Make sure to crease the edges well.

Take the wire and wrap it around the center of the tissue paper tightly and cut off the excess. Then tie one end of a piece of string around it to hang the pom with.

Fold the paper in half. Cut the ends of the tissue paper into either a rounded edge for a floral look or a point for a sunburst effect. Unfold the tissue paper, hold it in one hand and carefully separate each individual layer. Fluff as needed.

Tassel Garland

Layer 2 sheets of tissue paper on top of the other. Cut 1-inch wide strips that reach half way up the tissue paper.

Separate the sheets and lay the uncut ends together, slightly overlapping them. Fold your sheets in half lengthwise. It should look like a box in the middle with strips coming out on the right and left sides.

Start at the top center of the folded tissue paper and tightly roll it up, forming a tube with tassels on each end. Bend the tube in half, twist it around to form a loop at the top and a large tassel at the bottom and hot glue the twist to secure it.
