This may just be the ultimate pre-party appetizer. It's beautifully addictive, pairs well with both wine and beer, and it's impossible not to like. It's fairly simple–just a few ingredients, and easy enough to pull off even if you don't own a deep fryer. And if you DO happen to own your own deep fryer (you totally should!) then these need to be on your "deep fryer bucket list."

Things You'll Need

  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 24 wonton wrappers

  • Oil for frying

Step 1: Make the Filling

In a mixing bowl, stir together the green onions, cream cheese, garlic powder and salt. Set aside.

Step 2: Moisten the Edges

Lay one wonton wrapper on a flat surface and moisten the outer 1/2 inch of the edges with water. Then add 1/2 tablespoon filling to the center.

Step 3: Pinch the Edges

Starting at the outer edge, pinch the corners together and work towards the center. Pinch all of the corners in towards the center until the top is closed.

Step 4: Heat the oil

Add about 3 inches of oil to a pot. Heat to 350°F, and adjust the heat to maintain that temperature.

Step 5: Fry

Add a few wontons at a time to the hot oil, frying until golden brown. Remove and allow to drain and cool on a stack of paper towels.

Step 6: Serve

Serve when cooled enough to eat, alongside sweet and sour sauce. Enjoy!
