Fairy princesses are a popular costume for Halloween, book character days and school plays. Creating a fairy princess costume at home is much easier than you may think. To create your own, you will need materials found in your closet, as well as a few found at craft stores or costume stores.

    Princess Dress

  1. A princess dress starts with your fanciest dress that is appropriate to wear for Halloween or to school. It is important to choose a dress that is OK to wear in an environment that may attract stains and tears. If your dress is plain, consider spicing it up with glued on silk flowers or glitter.

If it is cold out when you will need to wear a princess dress, consider wearing a thin long-sleeved shirt underneath. This will keep your little princess warmer on cool trick-or-treat nights.
  2. Princess Accessories

  3. Something that makes any girl stand out as a princess is a crown. There are several ways to create a crown for your costume. Most craft stores sell foam crowns for about a dollar. These crowns can be decorated by little princesses with glitter, paint and stick-on gems.

Another crown option is a flower crown. To create a flower crown, purchase silk flowers at a craft store, along with flower wire and green flower tape. Cut the flowers from their stems, but leave about a half-inch of stem attached to the flower head. Use flower tape to twist the flowers together into a circular crown shape. If the wire is showing through the crown, use green flower tape to wrap around the wire.

Another item that will make any girl feel like a princess is a long pair of gloves. Gloves can be found at costume or craft stores. They run at different prices, so if the ones you find are too expensive, remember that they are not necessary for the costume.

Also, what princess costume is complete without jewelry? Princess jewelry can consist of various sparkly necklaces made from pearls, beads or large pendants. Rings, earrings and bracelets will also help give this costume added sparkle. Costume jewelry can be purchased inexpensively at costume stores, craft stores and some dollar stores.
  4. Fairy Details

  5. A fairy princess costume calls out for a pair of wings. Wings can be purchased at many craft stores for less than ten dollars. Fairy wings can be decorated with glitter, paint and ribbon. Little girls will enjoy decorating their wings so that they are perfect for their individual costume.

A little bit of makeup will help your child look more like a fairy. By adding just a touch of glitter to the eyelids or lips, your little girl will look fairy-like. Remember to buy glitter that is made especially to be worn on the face.
