Tea parties conjure images of ladies in lovely Victorian garb, sitting at lace-covered tables, sipping from fine china. Of course, tea parties today need not be so formal and games for adult tea parties can make them more casual. Tea party games should be tailored to accommodate the size of the gathering.

Host a tea tasting party. You need several tea pots each containing a different blend of tea. If possible, provide several sample size cups. Plastic cups should be heat resistant. Guests will each have a card with numbers or letters, depending on how the pots are labeled. Next to each number or letter, the guest writes down what tea she thinks she's just tasted. A list of teas, not in order, could be provided at the bottom of the card to make the game easier. Or there can be a couple of extra tea names in the list to make the game a little harder. No names at all would be for true tea connoisseurs. At the end of the tasting, score all the cards to determine a winner.

Tea Time Mad-Libs
Create your own game of mad-libs. Prior to the party, write down some sentences or perhaps construct a simple story, the sort read in a children's book. You can even borrow from a book. Write the sentences but remove some nouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives, leaving a blank in their place. Be sure to mark each blank with the appropriate type of word to be filled in. At the party, go around the room and ask the guests to supply a random noun or verb for each blank. Once all the blanks are filled in, read the story. Decide who's supplied word was the funniest in context and who's was the best fitting. Come up with funny prizes for the various "best answer" awards.
A Cup of Tea with Murder
Host a tea with murder party. In this game the "victim" has already taken his lumps. Murder mystery games can be purchased or create your own scenario. For added fun the guests can come dressed up for their parts. Parts are generally mailed out with the invitation so the guest can prepare. The murder games can be played with or without a dinner. Instead of courses between rounds, offer a fresh cup of tea, perhaps a different blend. Play the game and see who can solve the mystery. If you have more guests than parts, have the remaining guests be the audience and let them guess who the killer is. Prizes of expensive teas or tea accessories can be given to the winners.
Additional Activities
If the party is all women engage the little girl in them with cutting out paper dolls. Host a contest for whoever can make the longest chain of paper dolls, the most elaborate dolls or the smallest, distinguishable paper dolls. For another activity, turn the tea party into a tea room and have someone read tarot cards or tea leaves.
