Turn your empty baby food jar into a fun craft project.

Empty baby food jars find new life with crafts that are fun and easy to make. Recycle old baby food jars into decorative potpourri containers, candles, nightlights or holiday decorations. Children and adults both can enjoy making baby food jar crafts to give to friends and family as gifts or keep for themselves.

  1. Potpourri Containers

    • Re-purpose your baby food jars into potpourri containers that can be used in any room. Clean the baby food jars completely and allow them to dry. Use dried fresh flowers from your own garden along with scented oils to create your own potpourri blend, or purchase pre-packaged potpourri from a local store to fill your baby food jars. Cover the top of the jar with a piece of tulle or a small lace doily. Secure the tulle or doily with a small piece of ribbon tied in a bow. Consider using gelled potpourri to fill the jars as an alternative to dried floral potpourri.

    Candles

    • Create a layered candle using crystal wax in your empty baby food jar. Select multiple colors of crystal wax from your local craft or hobby store. Insert a wick with a small anchor disc into the empty baby food jar. Hold the wick in place as you fill the jar with alternating colors of crystal wax to create a layered effect. Create designs in the layers of wax by inserting a toothpick between the jar and the wax. Drag the toothpick to blend the wax colors and create interesting designs. Consider using holiday themed colors and give as gifts to friends or family members.

    Nightlights

    • Your empty baby food jar can be made into a nightlight with the use of a battery-powered candle and a paper cup. Cut the bottom from a paper cup and apply scraps of fabric or tissue paper to the outside of the cup with decoupage glue. Insert a battery-powered candle into the baby food jar and sit the paper cup lampshade on top of the candle. Secure the lampshade with a small amount of glue if desired. Consider soaking fabric or lace in liquid starch and wrapping around the paper cup. Once the fabric or lace has dried, remove the cup for a molded lampshade for your baby food jar nightlight.

    Holiday Decorations

    • An empty baby food jar can quickly become a holiday decoration that doubles as a container filled with holiday treats. Turn your baby food jar into a Santa Claus filled with small candies. Use red felt attached to the lid to form a hat, paint a face on the front of the jar, and use cotton balls attached to the jar with glue to create a beard and mustache. Baby food jars can also be filled with jellybeans at Easter and decorated to resemble bunnies with the use of felt to create ears. Add a painted-on face and a cotton ball tail to complete the Easter decoration.
