How to Make a Metallic Lace Hand Chain

Things You'll Need

  • Lace trim
  • Scrap paper or cardboard
  • Foam brush
  • Fabric stiffener
  • Metallic spray paint
  • Chain
  • 4mm jump rings (6)
  • 8mm jump ring (1)
  • Jewelry clasp
  • Adjustable ring with loop
  • Jewelry pliers
  • Scissors

Step 1

Cut one complete pattern from the lace trim; don't break any of the outer stitches or the lace will unravel.

Step 2

Apply fabric stiffener to the lace with a foam brush, following the instructions on the package.

Step 3

Leave the lace to dry as indicated by the directions on the bottle of fabric stiffener.

Step 4

Apply a layer of metallic spray paint to the lace. Leave it to dry according to the directions on the paint can.

Step 5

Using the jewelry pliers, open a 4mm jump ring by bend the ends away from each other.

Step 6

Attach the jump ring to the bottom left corner of the lace. Add two more 4mm jump rings to the center and bottom right corner.

Step 7

Cut a strand of chain measuring the length of your wrist.

Step 8

Attach the chain to the three 4mm jump rings along the bottom of the lace. There should be an equal amount of chain on each side of the lace shape.

Step 9

Add an 8mm jump ring to one end of the chain. Add the jewelry clasp with a 4mm jump ring to the other end of the chain.

Step 10

Cut a strand of chain long enough to connect the top of the lace shape to the base of your middle finger. Wear the bracelet and lace shape to determine the length of this specific chain. For this project, the chain is 1 inch.

Step 11

Connect the chain to the top of the lace shape with a 4mm jump ring. Connect the other end of the chain to the ring with another 4mm jump ring. Use small jump rings to attach the chain to the lace shape and ring.

Tips for Wearing a Metallic Lace Hand Chain

After applying spray paint, make sure the lace dries completely. When you're ready to wear your new hand chain, put on the ring first. Then, attach the bracelet portion to your wrist and wait for the compliments!
