Picnics are a fun way to enjoy the outdoors, hang out with friends and eat delicious homemade food. While picnics traditionally take place only in nice weather, rain does not necessarily have to cancel your picnic. Plan your cute rain picnic with a variety of ideas that will keep you dry, or will allow you to enjoy getting wet. In all cases, make sure to go inside immediately if a rain shower turns into a thunderstorm.

  1. Tent Picnic

    • Picnics do not necessarily have to take place under the sky on a blanket. Have a small picnic in a camping tent. Make sure it comes with a fly so you can stay dry. Pretend you are camping and bring appropriate food such as marshmallows, pre-cooked hot dogs and snack food. Sit in your cozy tent on sleeping bags and listen to the sound of the rain as it hits the tent's roof.

    Umbrella Picnic

    • If you don't mind getting a little wet, an umbrella can provide you with enough shelter to enjoy your picnic. Ask everyone invited to bring their own umbrella. Instead of a blanket, sit on a tarp or a waterproof tablecloth. One way to make this picnic even cuter is to share an umbrella between two people. Play rain games, such as seeing who can last the longest without an umbrella.

    Soaked Picnic

    • Rain isn't necessarily something to be scared of. One cute way to have a picnic in the rain is to let yourself go and get as wet as you can. Especially if it is a warm day, encourage your friends to dress in clothes they don't mind getting wet and sit in the rain together. Bring food in plastic containers and avoid foods that can be ruined by water, such as bread. Eat fresh fruits and veggies and play all day in the rain.

    Indoor Picnic

    • There is no rule that says a picnic has to take place outside at all. Organize a rainy day picnic in your living room. Make it as picnic-like as possible. Put food in a basket, lay a gingham blanket or table cloth on the ground and play Frisbee indoors. You can even make a cut-out of a sun and place it on the wall. Spend time lying on your back looking up at the ceiling, just as you might do outside while looking at the sky.
