What Does the Exclamation Point Mean in iTunes?
Moving your music files from one computer to another can be a lengthy process; sometimes files get lost in the process. If you use iTunes, the program will notify you when the file no longer exists by placing an exclamation point just to left of the song. To fix this, you can use iTunes to relocate the music file location in the iTunes library. You can also use iTunes to manage your library and make sure that copied files are always present in the correct folder.

Exclamation Point Meaning
-
When an exclamation point appears to the left of a song in iTunes, it means that iTunes can no longer find the file at the defined location for the file. This is often the result of copying or moving music incorrectly and then deleting the original file.
Locating Missing Files
-
To quickly locate all the entries in your iTunes library that have missing files, click the space just above the far left column in your library. This will sort your library by missing files and not missing files. By grouping all of the missing files together, you can more quickly resolve the issues.

Relocating Files
-
If you know where the song is located, you can redefine the song's location in iTunes. To do this, right-click on the song and click the option to locate the file. This opens a file explorer. You can navigate to the song and select it to redefine the song's location.
Preventing Exclamation Points
-
If you want to to avoid seeing the exclamation point, you can make sure that all of your iTunes files are stored in one location. Click on "Edit" and "Preferences." Click on the "Advanced" tab. Check the box for "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library." This allows you to drag and drop files into iTunes and still keep your songs consolidated. As long as you don't manually remove files from your iTunes media folder, you won't see the exclamation point.
