How to Change the Mic on Skype

Learn to change Skype microphone settings.

If you have multiple microphones connected to your computer, make sure Skype is set up to use the right one. Change your Skype settings to choose one of your computer's microphones, whether an internal microphone, a headset or an external microphone connected to an audio interface. Knowing how to change between microphones is an essential skill to learn if you recently installed a new audio device.

Instructions

1. Sign in to Skype. Select the "Tools" menu, then click "Options..."

2. Click "Audio settings" in the "General" section in the left column.

3. Select the microphone drop-down menu. Click the microphone you want to use from the list of available microphones. Click "Save" to activate your changes.

4. Make a call to "Echo / Sound Test Service" to ensure your microphone is working properly.

Tips & Warnings

• Click "Show advanced options" to remove certain microphones from being detected by Skype. Select the microphone and click "Remove."
