How to Take a Screenshot on Tumblr

Save

The Photo option at the top of your Tumblr dashboard has the settings to upload and post a screenshot to your Tumblr blog. Use the native Snipping Tool in Windows 8.1 to take a screenshot of your entire screen, a section of the screen or a specific window. Save the screenshot in the PNG, JPG/JPEG or GIF format, which are the image file types that Tumblr supports.

Clicking the Compose button at the top right corner of the dashboard is another way to reveal the Photo icon.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Snipping Tool is available in Windows 7 through the Start menu. Click the "Start" button, select "All Programs" and then click the "Accessories" folder. Select "Snipping Tool" to open the program.
  • Use the Screen Capture feature in Windows as an alternative way to take a screenshot. Press "Windows-PrtScn" to take a screenshot of your entire screen and automatically save it to the Pictures folder. If you want to capture only a single window, select the window and then press "Alt-PrtScn." Paste the screenshot into an applicable program, such as Paint.
  • To prevent Tumblr from scaling down your screenshot, upload an image that is 500 pixels by 750 pixels or less.
